Councilman Cliff Numark is dedicated to an accountable and cost-
effective city government.  He was elected to the Torrance City
Council in 2008 focusing on smart planning to protect
neighborhoods and create jobs, maintaining Torrance as a
balanced, fiscally sound city.  To that end, he focused on the
following issues:

•        Keeping Public Safety Priority #1
•        Fighting Traffic Congestion and Overdevelopment
•        Attracting Businesses to Create Jobs
•        Protecting the Environment
•        Supporting Torrance Seniors and Schools
•        Ensuring a Transparent and Accountable City Government

Numark serves as a Vice President of the Torrance Historical
Society, Vice President of the Torrance Symphony, board
member for the Madrona Marsh Foundation, advisory board
member of Sharefest and advisory board member for California
State University Dominguez Hills’ business school.

Prior to his election to the City Council in 2008, Numark served as
a City Commissioner for Parks and Recreation, where he
improved outreach for the annual community grants program and
updated the usage policy for the Plunge.  He previously served
on the Community Services Commission and the Cable Television
Advisory Board in 1999, where he initiated “Open Mic Night” to
better connect citizens to their city government.  Numark also
served as the Executive Director of the Torrance Chamber
program Leadership Torrance.

A South Bay native, Numark began his career as a journalist.
After completing graduate school, Numark served as CEO and
COO of two technology companies, launched a market research
business and worked as managing director of a management
consulting firm.  He currently works for the American Red Cross,
responsible for recruiting nearly 400,000 Southern Californians to
give blood.   Numark earned a Master in Public Affairs degree
from Princeton University, a law degree from the University of
California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall), a Master of Science from the
University of Sussex Engineering School, and a B.A. from
Pomona College.

Numark owns a home in West Torrance with his wife, Torrance
native Diane Korman, who is the senior producer for ABC’s
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.  The new parents of Lincoln
Numark, born in December 2009, the couple is happy to be just a
few miles from Numark's mother, who is a retired teacher living in
Torrance and his sister, who teaches at Jefferson Middle School.
Diane’s parents, Dale and Howard Korman are active in the
